About Animal Osteopathy

Just like humans, animals can suffer injuries leading to pain, stiffness, poor performance and behavioral changes. Animals can benefit from osteopathic treatment.Animal osteopathy is a manual therapy which complements veterinary care. It aims to remove tension, restrictions and encourages healing in the animal’s musculoskeletal system (muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints, bones, fascia). Animal osteopathy was developed over 30 years ago in the UK and is common practice in Europe, Australia and New Zealand where it is recommended by many veterinarians.

Animal osteopathy techniques include:

  • Soft tissue massage
  • Joint mobilisation
  • Joint manipulation
  • Cranial release
  • Myofascial release
  • Stretching muscles
  • Muscle inhibition

Animal Osteopaths commonly treat Horses & Dogs

During the first consultation our osteopath will understand your animal medical history and will perform a biomechanical assessment and evaluation. The osteopath will also observe and palpate to ensure the treatment plan is appropriate and effective to your animal.

Canine Osteopathy

Regardless of age, size or breed, your dog will be happier running around pain free. Dogs osteopathy is a manual treatment to improve your dog’s mobility and well being.  We can treat dogs in their own home so they will be more comfortable in a familiar environment. Treatment is typically performed standing, or dogs can also lie down if more comfortable in this position.

Equine Osteopathy

You can have your horse for dressage, racing, jumping, hacking, or trekking. No matter their role, a horse needs to be pain free and with full mobility to perform at it’s best.  Equine osteopathy treatment helps your horse rehabilitate post injury or surgery and can also be used to prevent injuries and improve overall function. Horses osteopathy consultations will usually take place at their stables. For more convenience and because your horse will feel more relaxed.
